Documented Byzantine Ring

$245.00

A very well documented Bronze Byzantine ring from the 6th-7th century. It features a broad hoop adorned with a circular motif embellished with incised dots in the form of a cross. This type of circular cross has been found in many different representations during this time, most commonly in the form of a cross pendent. Not many in this particular design has been found on rings, such as this. These five circles represent more then just the basic form of the cross, as it has another hidden meaning. The five circles also represents the five wounds Jesus sustained whilst on the cross, being the hands, feet and his side from the spear. Notably, this ring has been previously featured in the publication “EL LEGADO DE HEFESTO” (“The Legacy of Hephaestus”)
